Osun Govt enrolls 30,000 youth into its Health Insurance Scheme

…Embarks on massive recruitment of O’YES cadets

As part of its avowed commitment to maintaining the status of the state as a pacesetter in the health sector through its prompt intervention that has earned the state several accolades, the Government of Osun under the leadership of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has ordered immediate enrolment of 30,000 youth into its Health Insurance Scheme.

The initiative is aimed at ensuring that Osun youths that constitute a greater proportion of the population of the State get quality healthcare delivery that is accessible, affordable and beneficial to the youth.

This is even as the government announced that it has also kickstarted massive recruitment into Osun Youth Employment Scheme popularly called O’YES.

These disclosures were made on Friday by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Azeez Olayemi Lawal, during a press conference held at the Conference Room, Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation, State Government Secretariat, Abere.

Lawal said the initiative was to properly integrate the youth into the Scheme, especially those who are out of school, unemployed, physically challenged or mentally challenged.

He said the beneficiaries of the Scheme would be drawn from the 30 Local Government Areas, including Ife-East Area Office of the State in line with the Osun State Youth Policy Programme and Implementation Strategies.

“The present administration’s efforts in making sure that healthcare delivery is accessible and affordable to all citizens and residents of the State led to the establishment of the Osun Health Insurance Scheme (OHIS). The benefits of the Scheme are enormous as the people of Osun are now able to access quality healthcare without tears, with evidence of improvement in their health.

“Nevertheless, the youths, who constitute a greater proportion of the population of the State, some of whom are out of school, unemployed, physically challenged or mentally challenged, are yet to be fully integrated into the scheme.

“In order to address this, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, who is a lover of the youth, directed that 30,000 vulnerable youth drawn from all the local government areas of the State be enrolled under the Osun Health Insurance Scheme (OHIS).

“The enrollment of (30,000) thirty thousand vulnerable youth in all the Local Government in the State shall be as follows: Distribution of (OHIS) Osun Health Insurance Scheme forms to the vulnerable youth through Local Government Chairmen; Capturing and Documentation of vulnerable youth beneficiaries in each of Local Government in the State by Osun Health Insurance Scheme Team; Inauguration ceremony of (30,000) thirty thousand vulnerable youths into (OHIS) Osun State Health Insurance Scheme to be presided over by Mr. Governor, at a later date”, Lawal added.

The Commissioner revealed that the administration of Governor Oyetola has concluded plans to recruit massively into the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme as part of efforts to maximize the potential embedded in the youth so as to further contribute their quota to the growth and development of the State.

He said the recruitment of the prospective candidates for the Batch 5 of the O’YES Cadets would kickstart today, and that about 62,000 Cadets had gone through the Scheme that comprised 4 batches so far so good.

According to Lawal, the Scheme is a revolving 2-year Volunteers Scheme which strives to empower recruited youths across the 30 Local Governments and Area Office in the State while the volunteers are divided into different specialized cadres such as Public Sanitation, Public Works Brigade, Green Gang, Osun Sheriff Corps, Traffic Marshalls, Osun Paramedics, Sanitation Czars and Teachers Corps and the volunteers are deployed to offer productive services in the identified areas of socio-economic life in accordance with the objectives of the scheme.

“Let me make it clear that O’YES itself is not about offering employment to the youth but empowering the participating youth to become self-reliant and possibly become employers of labour. This is where the exit programme comes in. The Exit Programme empowers the Cadets by helping them become self-reliant through acquisition of relevant entrepreneurial and vocational skills. As at present, the Scheme has about 74 exit programmes for the cadets to choose from.

“We can boldly say that the Scheme has achieved success in transforming the lives of the ex-cadets through the exit programmes, to the extent that you can now find many of the ex-cadets doing fine in different areas of endeavours, be it the Civil Service, Para-Military Service, Private Sector etc. Similarly, many of our ex-cadets have established their own businesses.

“For instance, the owners of AJ Gas in Ile-Ife, and Alamar Multi-Purpose Nigeria Limited, passed through the Scheme. Some others have improved on their educational standing such as Dr. Foluke Kehinde, Ms Deronke Egbedun who is now in Canada, etc. On the political front, there are some former O’YES cadets who are now serving as Council chairmen, Secretaries to Local Government councils, Councillors, Senior Special Assistants to the Governor among others.

“In addition to these, O’YEs under the present administration has recorded more success stories which include Collaboration with the Osun Agency for Community and Social Development Project CSDA on PALM-OIL PROCESSING PROJECT for some ex-cadets of O’yes. The sum of N1,574,625.00 was approved and presented by CSDA to six Local Government Areas. For instance, OREDAPO Vulnerable Group Ifetedo in Ife South LGA among others included some O’YES Cadets who are into palm oil processing”, he added.

Oyetola flags off rehabilitation of Osogbo-Okinni-Ilobu-Ifon FG road, others

…says politics won’t affect governance

…to fix Inisa, Okinni, Oba Ile, Oba Oke, others

As part of his administration’s efforts to further raise the bar of infrastructure, enhance standard of living and set Osun on the path of socioeconomic rejuvenation through massive infrastructural developments, the Governor of Osun, Adegboyega Oyetola, on Thursday flagged off the rehabilitation of Osogbo-Okinni-Ilobu-Ifon (9.8km) Federal Government road in the State.

The Governor also flagged off and ordered for immediate reconstruction, Ire-Akari-round-about-Erin Osun LCDA Junction road (3.21km) and Post Office-Aiyetoro-Jamodo Olufon Palace-Janta road in Ifon-Osun (2.1km) respectively.

The newly-awarded three major roads that fall within Osogbo/Olorunda/Irepodun/Orolu Federal Constituency and Egbedore Local Government Area, have been crying for intervention due to their deplorable condition and neglect over the years.

The roads have been in a state of disrepair for 13 years after the re-award of the contract for its rehabilitation by the Federal Government in 2013.

The state government awarded the roads project to Messrs. Slavabogu Construction Nigeria Limited in the sum of N3,265,623,449.00, with a completion period of 12 months.

This is even as the Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olatoye Olaniyan, members of the State and National Assemblies, Communities Leaders, among others extolled the government for considering the roads for reconstruction after so many years of agitation.

Governor Oyetola reassured the citizens that politics would not for any reason hamper governance as he is committed to completing ongoing projects, initiating new ones as well as consolidating on his monumental strides when he is returned for second term.

Speaking at the event, Governor Oyetola said the project was in fulfilment of his administration’s avowed commitment to continue to grant development facilities to the people as promised, saying, “This is another delivery of the need that our people expressed during our Town Hall meetings”.

According to him, the need to urgently reconstruct the roads was informed by the avoidable hardship being experienced by the residents of the State plying the roads on daily a basis.

“These three roads, which have been in a deplorable condition over the years, have led to loss of several man-hours with the resultant negative effect on the social-economic activities in the State. It is our resolve to ensure that the relevant communities benefit from our infrastructure development efforts.

“The contract for the rehabilitation of these roads was used to kick start the e-procurement process newly-adopted by the State Government with four Ministries as the pilot MDAS.

“I am glad to inform this gathering that the award of the Contract is transparent and open to all on the e-procurement platform of the State.

“Messrs. SlavaBogu Nig. Ltd., which scored the highest point, was awarded the Contract in the sum of N3,265,623,449.00.

“It is my prayer and hope that when completed, the people of the State shall use these roads for profitable business as well as for general social development of the area. It is my belief that as good motorable roads boost the development of an area, the socio-economic activities of the citizens around the road network will in no distant time witness a massive turnaround.

“I want to seize this opportunity to enjoin the contractor to deploy relevant machinery to ensure that the roads are delivered in record time and in good quality in line with the Conditions of Award and Quality Assurance.

“I would like to enjoin the citizens of the State to reciprocate the good gesture of the State Government by providing enabling environment for the contractor to do his job.

“The flag-off of these roads today is a further confirmation of our belief that the path to sustainable socioeconomic development and service delivery is an endless one. It also lays credence to the fact that our administration is completely sold out to providing good governance for our people. It will also convince our people that there is no moment of drought in the four-year term You the People gave to us.

“I stand to confirm to you that as we gravitate towards completing this term, politics and governance will go hand in hand. It is also a clear indication that we shall continue to build a stable, strong and prosperous Osun that our people and prosperity shall be proud of.

“In the spirit of continuity and inclusive governance, we have constructed and rehabilitated scores of roads to transform our economy, some inherited and others initiated by us. These are proofs that ours is a government for all irrespective of political affiliation. We believe, and rightly so, that we were elected into office to do governance and not politics. We have demonstrated that governance is made strong when all and sundry benefit from government and have a sense of belonging.

“We therefore appeal to you all to reciprocate this gesture by relating as one family in the interest of peace and equitable development so that we can all bequeath the Osun of our forefathers’ dreams to prosperity.

“Let me also reiterate here that the roads we are flagging off today, though federal ones, span through five Local Government Areas, it has been in a state of disrepair for 13 years. After the re-award of the contract for its rehabilitation by the Federal Government in 2013, as a State, we made efforts to support the contractor which the Federal Government gave the contract to, yet, it did not yield any positive result.

“And because we are concerned about the suffering our people go through on these roads, we decided to take it over to put an end to the sufferings of our people. To meet the Federal Government’s specification, the road shall have 1.5metres shoulders on both sides.

“Apart from the roads project we are flagging off today, the Inisa township road, Baruwa, Halleluyah road, Okinni, Akinlalu, Apomu and Ilesa township road are all undergoing procurement process”, he added.

Speaking in his palace when Mr. Governor paid him homage during the flag-off ceremony, the Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olatoye Olaniyan, hailed the Governor for deeming it worthy to reconstruct the road that has become almost a death trap to transporters and residents plying it.

Oba Olaniyan, who lamented the present deplorable state of the road, said if completed, it would go a long way to galvanise the socioeconomic and infrastructural development in the benefiting towns.

He expressed the readiness of his subjects to continuously support the Administration of Governor Oyetola who he described as lover of development.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Remi Omowaye, said the choice of the roads was hinged on their socioeconomic peculiarity to the State as it traverses and links several communities together.

He said the roads which have been abandoned for more than 13 years had caused serious setback, hence, the swift response by the state to address the menace not minding the fact that it belongs to the Federal Government.

In their separate remarks, the Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Senator Ajibola Basiru ; Member House of Representatives, Representing Osogbo Federal Constituency, Hon. Bukola Oyewo; Member, House of Assembly representing Irepodun/Orolu State Constituency, Hon. Nashiru Olateju; and Chairman, APC Council of Elders, Engr. Sola Akinwumi, lauded the Governor for the initiative, saying it would restore the economic value of the benefitting communities.

Speaking, the Executive Vice Chairman, Slavabogu Construction Nigeria Limited, the construction company handling the project, Madam Grace Omolori-Okoya, who was represented by the Quality Control Officer, Engr. Marwan Estephan, assured quality service delivery in record time.

South West groups endorse Oyedele for APC National Secretary

A coalition of political groups under the aegis of South West Progressives has endorsed the candidature of Engr. Ife Oyedele as National Secretary ahead of the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) tomorrow.

The group gave the endorsement at the end of its meeting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, according to a statement jointly signed by the body’s Protem Chairman, Hon. Olalekan Obolo and Secretary Prince Tope Olubimo in Abuja on Friday.

The group said it adopted Engr. Oyedele because of his outstanding qualities as a bridge builder and great organizer of people.

They described Engr. Oyedele as a loyal party man, a bridge builder and unifier, which are core attributes that the next National Secretary of the Party must possess in order to promote the much needed cohesion and unity within the ranks of the Party.

Engr Oyedele was a Board of Trustees member of the defunct Congress of Progressive Change (CPC) and former governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2020 gubernatorial poll in Ondo State.

The Coalition also expressed displeasure over what it described as the marginalization of the CPC bloc of the APC in the South West, in the management of Party’s affairs in the last seven years.

It called on all leaders and members to support Oyedele for the sake of equity and above all, competence.

The group explained that South West Progressives is an amalgam of various political groups that subscribe to progressive ideals across the South West.

The statement reads in part: “One of the decisions adopted at our meeting was to support wholeheartedly the aspiration of Engineer Ife Oyedele as the National Secretary of the APC considering his humility, ability to organize people and above all his attributes as a bridge builder and a unifier.

“Engr. Oyedele is an unsung hero of the governing party as he was the brain behind the APC logo. With the zoning of the post of National Secretary to the South West, we make bold to say that the cap fits Oyedele and urge our party leaders to rally behind him.”

BREAKING:APC CECPC Secretary, Akpan Akpadoedehe Stand Sacked

Final List Of Sub Committees Remains The Only List Approved By CECPC ”

The APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee has reaffirmed its position regarding the sack of Senator Akpanudoedehe and maintained that the final list of Convention planning sub-committees signed by the Director of Organisation following the directive of the caretaker committee remains the final and authentic list.

Responding to news reports making rounds on a purported list of sub committees for the National Convention single handedly signed by the already sacked Senator Akpanudoedehe, Barr Ismaeel Ahmad who has been briefing the media since the sack of Senator Akpanudoedehe reiterated that the CECPC never approved the list and in fact has no record of such list. He therefore informed that party members and the media should ignore the falsehood being spread by sacked Senator Akpanudoedehe.

He further mentioned that the approved final list was the outcome of extensive consultations with all the stakeholders and follow up at ensuring a decent list that is representative and inclusive is put together and the same has since been issued. The laughable action of sacked Senator Akpanudoedehe is therefore considered an affront on the committee which was duly constituted in line with provisions of the party’s constitution and NEC of the party.

In an earlier statement, it will be recalled that a vote of no confidence was passed on Senator Akpanudoedeche relieving him of his duties as Secretary of the Committee by 10 of the 12 members of the caretaker committee.

Seeing the unpopular actions of Senator Akpanudoedehe it is now obvious that he might be surreptitiously working to derail the party, cause internal friction capable of causing further crisis, but the committee against all his antics is determined to forge ahead and ensure the national convention holds as scheduled and approved devoid of any untoward actions.
