A former three-term House of Representative member and former Federal Commissioner at the Federal Character Commission, Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade, has been declared the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives ticket for Yewa South/Ipokia Constituency of Ogun State.
Akinlade, a former three-term lawmaker, relinquished his Ogun West Senatorial ambition, out of respect for the party’s supremacy, to contest the House of Representatives primary elections, held at Oronna Hall, Ilaro, Ogun State on Friday.
Having served as a member of the House of Representatives between 2003 and 2015 in the Green Chamber, Akinlade, who is the Baba Adinni of Yewaland, polled 109 votes out of 110 accredited votes to emerge victorious over five other aspirants.
In and out of office, the former FCC Commissioner has attracted many human capital development projects and government agencies to Ogun West senatorial district and has been a grassroots politician in the state.
While thanking God and the party faithful for the rare privilege, Akinlade promised to improve on his performance by bringing more developmental projects and opportunities to Yewa South and Ipokia Federal constituency.
He also acknowledged the leadership role of the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the party leadership, and the magnanimity of some contestants who sacrificed for his emergence
Governor of Osun, Adegboyega Oyetola, has condemned in strongest terms, the shooting of the Nation’s Newspaper correspondent, Toba Adedeji, and another citizen by some trigger-happy police officers at Olaiya, Osogbo, the State capital on Tuesday.
Adedeji and the yet-to-be-identified citizen were reportedly shot by some overzealous policemen who were trying to disperse a group of people who had gathered to mourn the death of Abiola Afolabi, who was allegedly killed by police officers last month.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan, Governor Oyetola who is currently in Abuja for some pressing state and national matters, said shooting at unarmed citizens was completely unacceptable, irresponsible and condemnable, adding that the sad incident could have been avoided.
He noted that it was unfortunate that the sad incident occurred while the citizens were mourning the death of a loved one.
According to Governor Oyetola, such unlawful act by the police could aggravate an already- tensed situation that could lead to breakdown of law and order in the State. He, therefore, called for the thorough investigation of the incident, with a view to ensuring that the culprits are decisively dealt with in accordance with the law of the land.
“Shooting at journalists and unarmed citizen is completely unacceptable, irresponsible and condemnable. The police officers have no justification for this unfortunate and unlawful act. They could have employed other means rather than resorting to deadly force to disperse the group.
“The frequency of these unfortunate and avoidable provocative incidents is a source of concern to us, as a government. I have, therefore, directed the State Commissioner of Police to investigate the Tuesday shooting incident and ensure that his officers who are involved in it are identified and punished in accordance with extant regulations and law.
“We must ensure that this kind of sad and barbaric incident does not occur again in our State.
“I wish the Nation Newspaper correspondent, Adedeji, and the other citizen whom I learnt are presently receiving treatment at the hospital, speedy recovery. I am also calling on residents of Osun to remain calm and not take the law into their own hands. I assure that this matter will be pursued to a logical conclusion and the erring officers dealt with accordingly,” Oyetola said.
Panic as crisis hits Osun State Government House in Osogbo on Tuesday as members of the All Progressives Congress, most especially the delegates in the 31 Local Government areas of the State alleged party leadership of planning to manipulate them.
The delegates who were called to an emergency meeting at the government house in Osogbo had gathered as early as 8am.
According to them, the meeting purpose of the meeting was not stated in the messages sent to them by the party hierarchy. They were only asked to show up at the government house
It was gathered that crisis started when the first set of the delegates went inside to meet with the party leadership led by the State Chairman, Prince Gboyega Famodun, the Senate spokesperson and Director General of Oyetola campaign council, Dr Ajibola Basiru, Former Rep member, Ajibola Famurewa; Special Adviser to Oyetola on political affairs, Sunday Akere; among others. They alleged that they were asked to sign blank results sheets.
Moments later, angry delegates stormed outside the hall in protest. They said they were told to sign documents, which they supposedly told them to be the results sheets, but no names were on it.
APC members refused to sign these documents and demanded to know the names of the winners. This made the delegates to believe that they wanted to overrule the democracy of the people and replace the winners of the election with another candidates.
The crowd stormed out in fury and disappointment and protested that the will of the people, should be the rule and demanded that the results should be announced as the election was free and fair.
“Delegates did not vote. It was the direct primaries. Why asking us to sign results sheets? They are thieves. They want to manipulate the results and we will continue to resist that. The choice of the people should be announced. We can’t sign blank results”, one of the delegates from Ila local government told newsmen.

The All Progressives Congress has released the list of election committee /Appeal Committee for the governorship Primaries scheduled to hold on Thursday, 26th May 2022.
We are in the election season, when different characters come forward to seek the people’s mandate. We are in that period described by many as the “Black Market Season” in Nigerian Politics. We make our electoral choices using varying yardsticks – some based on their promises, some because of their parents, some get our votes because of the platform that produced them. Ultimately, we entrust our mandate in people because we have high hopes in them to represent us and deliver on the mandate of development.
As the people of Ifelodun, Offa and Oyun Federal Constituency await the decision of political parties who would field candidates to vie for a seat to represent them in the House of Representatives in next year’s general elections, at their respective primaries slated for this week, they have a ready made choice who irrespective of the political party he belongs to is capable and ready to akin to their yearnings and aspirations, if given the mandate next year.
That person is no other than Ishola Olateju, a former student union leader, a former Personal Assistant to a Governor, Personal Assistant to a serving Minister, Industrialist and above all a philanthropist, who stands tall among all the contender for this plum job.
Olateju stands out because even before his people decided to prevail on him to contest, he has been giving back to them, a major reason they are equivocal about him representing them.
Ishola Olateju, is a man with golden heart, a lover of the masses and an experienced manager of material and human resources. He has used his four decades on earth to serve people, particularly the people of his Federal Constituency, whom he has strived to assist within his capacity. I have no doubt in me that he means well for the people.
While there are numerous aspirants contesting with him, I see in Olateju a compassionate leader, that can be trusted with power. A man, that stood by you before getting to office will not abandon you when he get into office. My people in Ifelodun, Offa and Oyun federal constituency, this is the time to take our destiny into our hands not only because of the next 4 years but for posterity.
Our decision this time is capable to change our story forever. We must however decide to either continue as usual or decide to change our stories by ourselves. Ishola Olateju, represents a new order in our political evolution, he is the bridge between the old and the young, the poor and the rich.
I urge the delegates to choose wisely because the destiny of thousands of people is in their hands.
Finally, I urge the political class to play the game by the rules. There is no need whatsoever to go violent or through cheap blackmail. The news being spread by an aspirant that Olateju stepped down, is disappointing and should be avoided for peace to reign after the party primaries. We should understand that, our ultimate aim is to send away the retrogressive elements masquerading as progressive among us, and it is a duty that we owe to our fatherland.
