Appointment of New Clerk: 700 Million Bribery Allegation Rocks NASS Commission

As the current Clerk to the National Assembly, Architect Oyetunde Ojo bows out of service, reports have indicated that efforts are allegedly on to bribe members of the National Assembly Commission, to appoint a non-member of the legislative cadre as the New Clerk.

A top source at the National Assembly told newsmen on Friday, that plans are being hatched ahead of Monday’s meeting of the commission to sway its members to appoint one Sanni Magaji Tambuwal, the current Secretary of the Finance and Accounts Department, as the new Clerk in line with the wishes of a Governor from the North-West and the outgoing Clerk. There are currently various agitations against towing this line, as many of the commission staff cited that Tambuwal is a core finance staff whose role is to oversee the management of funds, he does not possess the requisite skill set to competently run the office of the clerk to the National Assembly.

The source who prefers to remain anonymous has intimated that a largesse of fifty million naira has been prepared for each Commissioner of the National Assembly Service Commission if the arrangement of Tambuwal as the Clerk comes to fruition. He reiterated the belief of many commission staff that the proposed Clerk is not qualified for the position because he is not from the legislative cadre, purposively trained to rise through the ranks to be Clerk to the National Assembly.

He said: “Though the outgoing Oyetunde Ojo is not also from the legislative cadre, he has since his appointment as Clerk to the National Assembly, proven to be a wrong choice because he has taken the National Assembly backward for like 15 years.
“Principally, the job of a Clerk to the National Assembly is that of a Chief Adviser to both the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives and also, to communicate to all State Houses of Assembly, matters relating to the concurrence of the parliament in the tiers of government in Nigeria. This thematic job description cannot be effectively achieved by a non-legislative cadre officer.

“In addition, there was an online publication recently that alleged the outgoing clerk of not complying with the service rule, which mandates him to proceed on a three months pre-retirement leave, which is preparatory to his retirement from service. He was alleged to have written to the National Assembly Service Commission of his decision not to comply with the service rules, and be allowed to stay in office, without complying with the Service Rule.”

According to this source, in preparation for the November 14th meeting of the Commission 50 Million Naira would be given to each Commissioner to confirm Tambuwal’s appointment.

Tinubu will prevail and Nigeria will be better for it – Dayo Israel

The National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress Hon Dayo Israel has ascertained that the Presidential Candidate of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will prevail and Nigeria will be better for it.

He made this known in a statement on Sunday noting the nationwide acceptance of Tinubu by most Nigerians across the country.

He described as despicable, the attempts by some elements to misconstrue his earlier tweet asserting Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory, based on his nationwide acceptance by most Nigerian.

The attempts to misconstrue my tweet asserting Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory, based on his nationwide acceptance by most Nigerians, is despicable.

Well-known alarmists whose stock in trade lies in creating needless controversies in order to remain relevant have desperately sought to suggest that by urging the acceptance of what is soon to be a democratic reality, I am somehow guilty of denying others the right to their own electoral choice. Nothing could be further from the truth.

In fact, the tweet was in part a rebuke of self-important elements like this who arrogate to themselves the power to dictate to other Nigerians who they must vote and how they must express their partisan support.

Several Nigerians, a lot of them young people, have been subjected to the worst kind of intimidation, abuse, and emotional blackmail for merely indicating their desire to vote for our candidate and party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Some of these vicious attacks have been led by those who now pretend to care about the right of every citizen to freely make an electoral choice, devoid of abuse and any form of coercion. In their conceit, they have, without basis, moralized their own partisan bias, insisting that only those who share that bias qualify as good Nigerians and should be allowed a say.

Their hypocrisy prevents them from acknowledging that sanctimonious actions like this, in the arena of politics which is defined by divergent interests, are what constitute grave dangers to our democracy and social harmony.

They have embraced a willful denial of the obvious fact that they constitute a tiny minority and that the very rules of democracy, which awards electoral victory to candidates with the most number of votes, means that they must live with the coming reality of a Tinubu administration, given that their attempts to intimidate millions of other Nigerians out of their choice of Asiwaju and the APC will be met with a resounding failure.

As earlier stated, my tweet only urges a helpful reconsideration based on my confident belief that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who enjoys popular support over his antecedents and clear superiority as the best-qualified candidate, will ultimately prevail.

Nigerians have decided on Bola Tinubu because he has demonstrated an unmatched capacity for leadership. The evidence is clear. His reform of government processes and agencies, and partnership with the private sector, to conceive and guide the birth of a mega-city.

His mentorship of leaders who represent the brightest minds in public service today. From Tunde Fashola to Babajide Sanwoolu, Tinubu’s distinguished status as the country’s most impactful political actor, at the forefront of the country’s most successful governance achievements since 1999 is without question. Go and verify!

You will vote, just as other Nigerians. The results and eventual outcome will honour the wish of the majority of Nigerians, not any one individual or group no matter how loud their voice or how toxic their campaign. That is the beauty of democracy. It rewards consensus and punishes divisiveness. Tinubu will prevail and Nigeria will be better for it.

Adamawa Kids Earn YII Founder’s Scholarship

The phrase “catch them young” is widely used by all and sundry. However, Hon Ismail Adeniyi the founder of Youth Inclusive initiative is on a social mission to redefining human capital development by catching them at such young and tender age. His approach here is such that the intellectual, social, and emotional development of any adult today is a function of the sort of childhood they endured through time.

During his recent trip to Adamawa state, Hon. Adeniyi Ismail met with a group of young and brilliant Nigerians who are visibly from vulnerable backgrounds. He dined and wined with them, encouraged them and offered scholarships for some of them through The Youth Inclusive Initiative (YII).

While announcing the scholarship, Hon Ismail Adeniyi said:

“We all say; youths are the leaders of tomorrow, but we can’t emphasize enough the venerability of a proper foundation and structure to fuse these future expectations, Otherwise we will have a disaster in waiting. I believe human capital development has different strata, and at every juncture there must be agglomeration of ideologies that can shape the quality of individuals that our society seek to produce. This was exactly what was running through my mind when I was in the midst of these amazing young chaps in whose Future I intend to be a part. This is why I am taking this course of action to offer scholarships and follow-up programs for those that will get scholarships from YII”.
