Workers at the National Assembly Service Commission have called on President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and others to quickly wade into the crisis at the commission and reverse all the alleged illegal appointments influenced by politicians.
The workers in a press release in Abuja on Wednesday noted that the appointments of the Clerk and others ran afoul of the provisions of the National Assembly Service Commission Act, 2014 as amended, adding that if nothing was done within seven days, they would head to the court for redress.
SaharaReporters had reported that the position of the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, was given to Sani Magaji Tambuwal, the erstwhile Secretary of Finance and Accounts of the National Assembly.
It will be recalled that Tambuwal, alongside Mr. Ogunlana Kamoru, Secretary of Legal Services, was elevated to the position of Acting Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly (DCNA), Mrs. Henrietta Aimua-Ehikioya (former Secretary of Special Duties) was redeployed as Secretary of Legal Services, Mr. Birma Shuaibu Maina, the Director, (Legislative) Senate, the new Acting Secretary of Human Resources and Staff Development Directorate, were all appointed by the National Assembly Service Commission on November 18, 2022.
The commission had claimed that the appointments were sequel to the approval of a Memorandum presented by the Committee on Establishment, Records and Training of the Commission on the need to fill existing vacancies in the National Assembly Management team.
But the concerned in their press release on Wednesday said, “For over six months, our organisation has written several letters and addressed, press conferences, including an open letter to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives on the matter, but as it stands, nothing proactive has been done.
“As we have emphasised, the appointment of Tambuwal was influenced by a serving Governor from the North West, who doled out the sum of N50 million to each member of the commission, to carry out the said act. We have reliable information that a largesse of N700 million was earmarked for the job.
“Asides the political side to the issue, Tambuwal’s appointment is at variance, with the Act of the National Assembly, regulating the appointment and elevation of principal career officers/top management staff.
“Those who were against his elevation cited the fact that Tambuwal, was not from the legislative cadre, which is constitutionally provided, for whoever will be elevated to such position.
“We have also recommended measures that we felt could save this corruption ridden process from tarnishing the image of the National Assembly with varying references to history vis a vis relevant provisions of the Constitution, to stakeholders, to establish why the current process should be reviewed and addressed as appropriate.
“At this critical point of our nationhood and our nascent democracy, the ongoing illegality and grand corruption in the National Assembly Service Commission, sends the wrong signal to the bewilderment of Nigerians and the international Community that Nigerian lawmakers cannot uphold the Act passed by the National Assembly and the rule of law.
“Since the appointments were made illegally, we urge President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osibanjo, Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Lawan and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, to wade in urgently and save the legislature and its bureaucracy.
“We will not rest until the illegality is addressed, as we are ready to proceed to court in the next seven days if this illegality and affront on the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the same institution that is supposed to protect it is not corrected.”
The National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Hon Dayo Israel on Thursday paid a visit to the Elder Sister of Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara at her residence in Gusau.
The National Youth Leader, who was accompanied by the APC Youths in Zamfara State said the purpose of the visit is to pay homage and to receive her blessings as they continue to tour the country.
APC National Youth Leader, Hon. Dayo Israel, has charged youths and citizens of Zamfara to maintain the party’s incumbent status in the state and central government by backing its presidential and governorship candidates in the 2023 general elections for continous progress in the war against terror and to facilitate greater economic growth.
Israel said this while addressing the crowd at the One Million Youth March staged in Gusau, Zamfara state capital, on Wednesday to mobilize support, particularly amongst the youths, for Governor Bello Matawalle who is seeking another term in office.
In his address, Israel highlighted the successes of the APC government in the key areas of security and economy, noting that Governor Matawalle, otherwise known has ‘Dodo’, had worked hard to combat the banditry challenge which previously led to the occurence of daily killings and violent attacks in some parts of the state.
He said the Matawalle administration had ‘partnered effectively’ with the APC-led government at the center, adding that it was in the best interests of the people to preserve the partnership with the election of Bola Tinubu and Bello Matawalle as president and governor respectively.
“My trip down here from Kaduna is testament to the fact that Governor Matawalle has recorded notable success in his fight against insecurity. No longer is the state dominating the headlines for negative reports of killings and deaths. Things have considerably improved on that end because of the total commitment of the governor and his effective partnership with the Buhari-led APC federal government,” he said.
“Our party has demonstrated what it means to run a people-focused agenda and it is in the interests of our collective progress as a nation, and your economic well-being and protection as the people of Zamfara, to ensure that we remain in power across all levels of government come 2023.”
“Please obtain your PVCs and let your votes count by electing Bola Tinubu as president and Dodo Matawalle as governor. Up and down the ballot, you must place your thumb only against the party with the umbrella logo so we can continue the important task of sweeping away the looters of our joint patrimony and reposition the country for greatness.”
Israel also paid homage to the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, to congratulate him over the national honor bestowed upon him by the president and to praise his fatherly role and outstanding contributions toward peace and development.
He was accompanied by youth leaders of the party’s state chapter with whom he held a closed-door meeting to discuss plans and assess their readiness for the election, particularly the attainment of the youth wing’s set goal to deliver over 40 million votes to the APC in 2023.
The National Association of Fisheries Students (NAFIS) on 28th November, 2022 presented an Award of Excellence to the founder and Principal Partner of Youth Inclusive Initiative (YII) Hon Ismail Adeniyi Oluwatosin in recognition of his outstanding contribution to youth development.
Below is the full text of his speech :
I wish to express my profound gratitude to the organizers of this award, for counting me worthy of recognition, on occasion of this auspicious award. It is indeed a testament to the fact that “hardwork may not be witnessed, but time exposes everything”.
This award is a subtle reminder that my commitment to youth development and empowerment must remain sacrosanct. Me and my team must continue the harmonious partnership with allies and well-meaning Nigerians to continue to use Youth Inclusive Initiative (YII) as a pedestal to propagate the extensive role of a productive and equitable youth system.
My renewed commitment is to sustain this momentum, never rest on my oars, as we work hand-in-hand to chart a course for a Nigeria that we can all be proud ambassadors of. I encourage all hardworking youths from all spheres, farmers inclusive, and most especially the National Association of fisheries student, who deemed it fit to confer on me this award that; the future may look uncertain, but the end is always near, we will work together as one to be proud patriots through due diligence and hardwork. God bless all our youths, and God bless our beautiful country Nigeria.
Good politicians are not made in laboratories, they are not made with the fusion of molecules or atoms, nor faked. All the good politicians have the same track record, they try to cause a systemic change in their neighbourhoods, and they moved to their states and then the nation at large, they have just one intention, THE NATION.
My first encounter with Hon. Adeniyi is one that still leaves me surprised, I had just won the Best judge in an international debating Championship and he sent a message, *’You are a gem to the nation, you need mentorship to grow, do you mind picking a role with us?* indeed a man that can perfectly spot boys and turn them into men.
Since I assume office, he was won two awards, one from the Rotary club for his immense contributions to youth development and secondly from the National Association of Fisheries students for his immense contributions to the growth of fisheries and youth empowerment all under the wing of YII.
YII is an organisation that started many years ago with mandates to empower youths, widows and the disabled, I have followed him to different functions and can count by numbers the amount of youth, widows and women he has put a smile on their faces.
The latest appointment for APC National Youth Leader is a good call from a great leader, not only is it deserving but I would recommend him for a national position once Bola Ahmed emerges in 2023. He is a great asset to the country, he has a load of achievements, and experiences and several Facebook posts praising him in the morning speaks volume of his great strides.

“I appreciate all religious groups, particularly Islamic organizations for their support at all times. As a senator, our primary responsibility is law-making and to the glory of Allah, I didn’t go there to make up the number. I initiated many progressive bills and this earned me the position of Senate Spokesperson within a year in Office.”
“Apart from this, within three years, I have rehabilitated many roads and schools and sunk modern boreholes across Osun Central. I provided solar lights in palaces markets places and some towns and streets in my constituency. This did not affect empowerment for women, skill acquisition programs for youths anmuchny other assistance. I assure you that these would not stop as I will do more if I am re-elected.” Dr Basiru who quoted from the Holy Qur’an charged all Muslim women to remain steadfast in Islam with total submission to the will of Allah.

There are indications that the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), is secretly working behind the scenes to take over the National Assembly, in 2023.
According to feelers from the national legislature, efforts are in due course to ensure the confirmation of the newly appointed Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Magaji Tambuwal, as the substantive clerk.
Tambuwal’s due confirmation, it was learned, will begin the first out of many processes by the opposition led by a serving Governor in the North West, who has doled out over N700 million naira, to influence the new clerk’s appointment and to see to his eventual takeover after the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing Clerk, Olatunde Amos Ojo.
Findings indicate that Tambuwal, a former Secretary in the Finance Department of the National Assembly, is a non-member of the legislative cadre, who cannot be constitutionally recognised to provide replacements for principal positions, such as that of the Clerk.
According to a top source in the management of the National Assembly who does not want his name in print, the plan is to repeat a semblance of what happened in 2015, where the PDP hijacked the structure of the National Assembly, which caused a plethora of issues, for the Muhammadu Buhari administration in its first term.
The source said: “The process has been planned, Just like what happened in 2015, the PDP is working with the outgoing Clerk, to ensure that Tambuwal takes over from him, thereby ensuring that the PDP controls the structure of the parliament, after the 2023 general elections.
“The major financier of the whole issue is a Governor from the North West, who is a former Speaker of the House of Representatives. The individual had doled out N700 million to Commissioners of the National Assembly Service Commission, to carry out the grand plan. If you will recall the strategy in 2015, the PDP was able to hijack the National Assembly, due to the support of the Clerk of the National Assembly and some elements in the APC and the PDP.
“The silence and non action of the current leaders of the National Assembly Most especially the Senate President and the Speaker House of Representative, Senator Ahmed Lawan and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila respectively on the issue is one which may let this political coup go unchecked. They are either being misadvised or falling prey to the cunning strategies of these connivers which at the end of the day may result an uncontrollable situation if no action is taken. Their silence is no longer golden and creating instability in this system, they should act fast and act now. Enough of the bad politics.
“The National Assembly is a sacred institution and the hope of our democracy, If this continues, it is indeed a sharp retrogression and a step to bastardise the future of the National Assembly.” which can become a legislative suicide in the hands of the ruling party.
A foremost Muslim women organisation in Nigeria, FOMWAN, has thumbed up for Senator Ajibola Basiru for his efforts at uplifting Islaam.
